Who are we?
The National Board of Industrial Injuries is an agency under the Ministry of Employment. As an impartial authority we make decisions on workers’ compensation claims.
Industrial injuries
We decide whether an injury or disease qualifies for recognition as an industrial injury. We also decide the amount of the compensation you can get for an industrial injury.
All employers must insure their employees against industrial injuries. Your employer’s insurers are the ones who pay you any compensation as well as the costs of having your claim processed by us.
We do not decide if your employer can be held responsible for the injury.
Private compensation claims
The National Board of Industrial Injuries also has a division for private compensation claims (the P-Division), which processes claims where people have been injured in their leisure time. These claims vary from road accidents to cases of violence.
The P-Division offers insurance companies as well as injured persons an impartial statement on the health and occupational consequences of a personal injury.
The statement may i.a. include an assessment of the degree of permanent injury and loss of earning capacity.
Statements made by the P-Division are advisory. If the parties disagree with the statement made by the National Board of Industrial Injuries, the next step may be to have the matter decided by a court of law.
Other claims
In addition to workers’ compensation claims and private compensation claims the National Board of Industrial Injuries also handles cases pertaining to:
- Special educational assistance for students suffering from a physical or mental handicap
- Compensation for victims of the occupation period
